KP Youth Employment Program (KPYEP.com) is one of the world’s first publicly funded digital skills trainings. Since August 2017, the program has trained nearly 1000 university students and graduates on in-demand skills such as digital marketing, website development, business communication and advanced courses such as Internet of Things device development. This builds on the first phase of the program in which over 5000 were trained in 2016.

The program is an initiative of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Information Technology Board – KPITB, with implementation partnerships with public sector universities and technical assistance provided by the World Bank. KPITB hired world-class trainers for each of the courses being offered, which were developed after a careful market analysis. Trainings are offered in a number of districts across the province.

The program aims to reduce the industry academia skills gap by providing short courses that enhance employability in a changing economy. It also incorporates a blended learning approach, and students are provided access to course content using an online platform as well as in person trainings. Graduates have already found full time work in local software houses, as well as gigs as freelancers. Women and girls have especially benefited from being taught monetizable skills which enable them to work from home on flexible schedules as content writers, bloggers or marketing professionals.
